Flock Camera Locations Released — Here's What's Next

April 13, 2025

Some good news this week: after weeks of pressure, the Cedar Rapids Police Department has released the locations of Flock Safety cameras deployed across the city.

You can now view the full list here:

This is a meaningful step toward transparency. A few months ago, none of this information was available to the public.

What's next?

We're now pushing for the city to publish a public-facing audit log of Flock camera searches. Residents should be able to see how these systems are being used and by whom.

We also have a FOIA request pending for emails and internal communications related to the deployment of these cameras in Cedar Rapids. We'll publish those findings as soon as we receive them.

Additionally, most of these camera installations require a permit. We're reviewing permit records to confirm whether proper procedures were followed.

If you're new here and want to understand why this matters, check out our About page or read our earlier reporting. We're tracking the expansion of surveillance infrastructure in Cedar Rapids—who's building it, who profits from it, and how it affects the community.

It's worth noting that none of this transparency existed before residents started asking questions.

Local pressure works.
